Boots & Hats

Spring is my favorite season, and because the weather where I live often goes in waves, I love to embrace nice weather when we have it! On this beautiful day, I decided to pair some black flowy shorts with a grey tee. To add an extra layer, I threw on a light washed unbuttoned denim shirt. 

I added my favorite black floppy hat from free people to keep the sun out of my eyes and to give the look a bit of a bohemian feel. Floppy hats are one of my essentials for spring that I could not live without!

Lastly, I finished off the outfit with my funky blue cowboy booties. These shoes are a great transition from winter to spring, and are super comfortable!

Layering 101: Winter Weather

Where I live we have been experiencing quite a winter icepocalypse! In this setting, the only thing keeping my fashion sense stable is layering, layering, layering! In this outfit I just layered a few of my favorite winter pieces to stay warm and cozy, and look adorable!

 I started out with the basics, a long sleeved grey turtleneck, black pants, and my favorite riding boots. These pieces are a great foundation for layering, and give you an (almost) blank canvas to work off of. 

Next, I added this quarter sleeved denim shirt. I love this addition because it's polished, but casual at the same time. 

 The last layer that I added to the look was this big blanket Burberry cape (that I stole from my mom's closet). I am in love with this piece because it adds a cozy feel, and is extremely comfortable.

My Valentines Day Look: Boyfriend Jeans Without a Boyfriend

Happy (late) Valentine's Day! For my Valentine's Day look I thought that it was only appropriate to wear my favorite pair of hand painted boyfriend jeans, because I had a fabulous, boyfriend-less V-Day! 

These jeans are one of the most loved pieces in my closet, and are even cooler because of the past that they hold. They were my mom's jeans in college and she kept them around because she could not bring herself to part with them, and I am extremely thankful for that. 

The hand painted roses are the perfect touch in general, and for the special day! Also, the baggy, "boyfriend", fit makes the jeans super comfortable and easy to wear.

Because I really wanted the outfit to revolve around the jeans, I paired it with the most basic top possible. I grabbed a white, Hanes tee shirt out of my brothers closet, chopped off the bottom, rolled up the sleeves, and called it a day. 

I finished off the look with this pair of vibrant blue strapped pumps (please don't mind my unpainted nails). I think that the thin heels really balances out the loose jeans, tying the outfit all together.

A Few of My Punk Rock Favorites

Music plays such a huge role in my life. Playing music is not only a huge hobby of mine, but also listening to and discovering new music. My dad has been such an influence in my life, making me a music snob just like him. He has introduced me to some of these albums, and I have found the rest for myself. Instead of picking my favorite songs, I chose to show you my favorite albums because to me there is nothing like closing your eyes and listening to an album from start to finish. All of these albums have played a huge roll in my life, and brought me much amazement and joy. I love each of these albums for different reasons, and I hope you check them out and possibly discover some new favorites!

Singles Going Steady- The Buzzcocks

Singles going steady was one of the albums that introduced me to a whole new world of music, punk rock. There is no doubt in my mind that this masterpiece is one of the greatest punk albums of all time, but I feel that The Buzzcocks in general are often overlooked, along with many others such as the Ex-Ray-Spex, Richard Hell, and Wire. This album is extremely catchy while still having the rough qualities of any great punk album, making it worthy of a classic. This album is old school pop-punk done right, and always puts me a better mood.

Blank Generation- Richard Hell & The Voidoids

Richard Hell, being one of the firsts on the punk scene, has the formula down for a fast, loud punk song. Hell's unique voice, along with the unusual guitar chords, makes this album never fail to lack originality, or value. The lyrics have rebellion, and humor, and this album embodies everything that a punk album should. Richard Hell is a punk icon that inspired many others. But what Hell had that many of his followers did not, was intelligence behind his iconic look and sound. Hell embodies the NY CBGB scene, making your listening experience unlike any other.

Marquee Moon- Television

The Album Marquee Moon, Television's debut album, is one that I can listen to over and over again without its wow factor lowering one bit. My amazement by this album is so strong, making this one of my favorite albums, period. Tracks like Venus and See No Evil are so tight, yet have a raw feel and essence to them. They are harsh, while still knowing how to hold back. This album is revolutionary, and the punk scene would have been completely different without it. 

Favorite Tracks: Marquee Moon (obviously), See No Evil, Venus, Friction

Loaded- The Velvet Underground

The Velvet Underground is hands down my favorite band of all time. Everything about them strikes me as fascinating and intriguing. I love their sound, and how they can change up their genre through each album. While Loaded, my personal favorite, is more of a classic rock album, White Light White Heat is completely different, yet both are equally genius. I move from album to album, and band to band relatively quickly because of the technology that makes that so available, but the Velvets are one band that never leaves my mind. They revolutionized music, and while they aren't necessarily a punk band, they influenced punk rock immensely, and lived on the punk scene. 

 Favorite Tracks: Who Loves the Sun, Rock and Roll, New Age, Oh Sweet Nothing

Faux Real

Being bold in fashion is something that we shouldn’t be afraid to do. You must  have the mindset to “just wear it” when doubting a statement piece that you love, but your peers may not. While this jacket isn’t too exotic, for a fourteen year old girl it's not the usual uniform. I love this jacket, and while I’ve gotten comments like “you look like a dog (and other various animals)” and some stares, it makes me feel good and helps me embrace the fashionista I truly am.

Because I love mixing materials, I paired the furry jacket with my favorite pleather leggings. I absolutely love the look of pleather leggings, because they add edge to any look, without being too dramatic.

I threw on a burnout style graphic tee shirt under the jacket, to keep the look casual and laid back. The gold details on the tee shirt really tie the whole outfit together, and my favorite black booties (which you have seen many times) are a great finishing touch!

Free People Shaggy Jacket

Rock & Roll, Baby

This past weekend I had such a fun experience playing a Beatles tribute concert at Lafayette's Music Room. I took this opportunity to capture my outfit onstage, unlike how I usually show my looks. Whenever I play a gig, I try and edge up my look a little, to go along with the rock music that we play. 

I went with the obvious choice of a classic leather jacket paired with some ripped up black jeans. You can't go wrong with black on black when playing a rock concert. The show is about the music and only that, so its pointless to get all done up in some silly costume. 

Under the leather jacket I threw on a grey Grateful Dead t-shirt. Pairing the jacket with a casual tee makes the ensemble feel effortless, and makes it even more rock and roll. 

Combat boots were the perfect addition to finish off the look. This comfortable pair of shoes is an amazing buy because the piece only gets cooler the more scuffed up and worn it is. 

 The final component of the look is obviously the Paul McCartney bass guitar. Although the bass is sort of a knockoff Hoffner, the beauty in its appearance doesn't fall short of the real deal. Playing Lennon and McCartney music with a McCartney bass was sensational and pretty awesome. 

Disco Darling

My American Apparel Disco Pants are my new obsessions. They make a statement without being tacky, and have every element of a perfect statement piece: color and texture. The color of these pants is gorgeous deep purple, and the metallic effect is eye-catching and the focus of the look. 

Because the pants are such a bold addition, I decided to keep it casual and pretty basic with a t shirt on the top. While normally I would pair the pants with a funky patterned top, I really like the way this Nirvana tee laid with the disco pants.  

The contrast between the tight metallic pants and the loose tee is what drew me to the pairing. I love being comfortable and fashionable, and this outfit allowed me to achieve exactly that. 

Adding small accessories like this Free People bralette is a great way to make the look much more fashionable, with little effort. These bralettes are so comfortable, and add a little something extra to anything they are paired with.
