My Inspiration: Patti Smith

As a teenager who spends most of her nights listening to punk rock and putting together outfits, Patti Smith is an obvious inspiration to my music, fashion, and lifestyle. Smith was an icon and is worthy of every praise she is given.

She wasn't afraid to take chances, and didn't feel that she had to live up to the standards that punk rock was setting. She said, "To me, punk rock is the freedom to create, freedom to be successful, freedom not to be successful, freedom to be who you are. Its freedom." This was the original intention of the punk movement, but it was often forgotten when artists continued to follow the specific mold. Smith embraced the freedom and created her own artistic style.

Patti Smith is someone that inspires not only me, but also runway fashion. Ideas and looks have been taken from her that are still worn today. (such as the flower crown pictured below) I have included a variety of pictures that i think truly capture the style and spirit of Patti Smith.
